Verna Lee Allen Bowman, 79, of Levelland passed from this life on February 20, 2020. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Krestridge Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Whitharral Baptist Church.
She was born January 15, 1941 in Gilmer, Texas to parents, Vernon “Buck” and Bessie Lee (Albright) Burtchell. Verna married Troy Eugene Allen on July 29, 1955. They made their home in Lubbock where Verna was a stay at home Mom until her children were in their teens. She then attended cosmetology school, graduating with honors, and worked at Jessie Lee’s Hair Design. Troy passed away on February 4, 1973.
Verna married R. L. “Bo” Bowman on July 25, 1974 and moved to Levelland. She owned and operated her own hair salon until retirement. Verna and Bo loved traveling cross county in their RV with their dogs. They also traveled to New Zealand and Australia. Verna’s dream trip was an extended month long trip to England.
She enjoyed painting everything from dressers to cabinets and wall art. Verna loved working in the yard, but her great love was her grandchildren. She taught them how to be the best they could be. Verna was also an excellent self-taught seamstress and quilter.
Verna and Bo were married 45 years and they always laughed and loved until the end.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Allen; parents, Vernon and Bessie Lee Burtchell; and sisters, Edith Burtchell and Mary Etta Burtchell Barnes.
Verna is survived by her husband, R.L. “Bo” Bowman of Levelland; sons, Michael Eugene Allen and wife Sandy of Lubbock and Russell Dwain Allen of Levelland; daughters, Crystal Allen Riggins and husband Wayne of Opdyke West and Wendy Allen Pierce of Levelland; step children, Monty Bowman and wife Theresa of Lubbock and Renee Treider and husband Reggie of Cypress; grandchildren, Mandy Leigh Campbell of Levelland, Charles Reed Taylor III of Abilene, Kimberly Campbell Fernandez and husband Paul of O’Donnell, Lacey Riggins Almager and husband Arnold of Levelland, Chelsey Riggins Dobrovolny and husband Jason of Whitharral, Jason Michael Allen of Clinton, Mississippi, Kristen Allen Slaven and husband Jeremy of Clinton, Mississippi, Amber Marie Bowman of Lubbock, Brook Holly Bowman of Lubbock, Victoria Treider of Cypress and Elizabeth Treider of Cypress; great grandchildren, Charles Reed Taylor IV of Abilene, Callie Sue Taylor of Abilene, Hudson Antone Dobrovolny of Whitharral, Stedson Wayne Dobrovolny of Whitharral, Meagan Grace Campbell of Levelland, Enly Gray Slaven of Clinton, Mississippi, Eadie Clair Slaven of Clinton, Mississippi, Elijah Shugard of O’Donnell, Isaiah Fernandez of O’Donnell, Desiree Fernandez of O’Donnell and Marcus Fernandez of O’Donnell; great great grandson, Malcolm Reed Taylor of Abilene; and nephews, Clinton Dwight Graves of Houston and Jeffery Lane Graves of Gruver.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests donations in Verna’s memory to the Forget Me Nots % Alzheimer’s Association of West Texas, 4601 50th Street, Suite 216 Lubbock, Texas 79414; or a charity of your choice.
