Stephen Michael Rains

Stephen Michael Rains, 68, passed from this life February 23, 2022 in Hobbs, NM.

He was born March 13, 1953 to Bob and Marcie Rains, also from Hobbs.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Rhonda Dunn; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and LaVena.

As the last of a generation of the Rains family, he will be especially missed.

He is survived by his best friend of 40 years, our aunt, Jan Rotenberry; niece, Jeanie Dunn and her children Gage and Rhonnie; niece, Anne Flores and her husband John along with their children Marcie and Sebastian; and nephew, David Rains.

Uncle Steve loved all of his nieces and nephews and often commented that they were all great, not just the youngest ones.

He was a life-long member of Taylor Street Church of Christ. Steve loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and longed to meet him.

Steve had many jobs through his life but found his passion in teaching. He was an avid reader and shared that joy through his teaching.  He taught first grade for several years and then moved on to adults in the prison system.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate Memorial Contributions to either the New Mexico Christian Children's Home or the Children's Home of Lubbock.

A Memorial Service will be held at Taylor Street Church of Christ on Saturday, March 12^, 2022 at 2 PM. Visitation with the family will be at the church in the Family Room the same day at 1 PM.
