Sherry Cheri (Baugh) Thomas died peacefully on Monday, September 4, 2023, in Lubbock, TX. She was 77.
Sherry was born in Abilene, TX, on August 27, 1946. She attended St Joseph’s Academy and Abilene Public Schools, graduating from Abilene Cooper in 1964.
She married Robert Edward Thomas (1967-1993) and graduated from Texas Tech College in 1968.
Sherry began her teaching career in New Deal (1968 - 1971) and later worked for 9 years as the Activities Director for First United Methodist Church in Lubbock. She then taught 17 years at Bayless
Elementary in Lubbock before finishing out her career with a 9 year stint in Special Education at Ash in Plainview, TX.
In retirement, Sherry enjoyed making new friends as a volunteer at American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Lubbock and Second Helpings at First United Methodist Church, and she continued meeting old friends at water aerobics and for weekly coffee gatherings at Starbucks in the last several years.
Sherry was preceded in death by: her parents, Billie Louise (Antilley) and Jim Webb Baugh; grandparents Myrtle (Crabtree) and Henry Antilley and Alma Rebecca (Webb) and Albert Baugh; her son, Brian Thomas; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and fur babies.
She is survived by: daughter Kelley Jo Ashlock and family of Friona, TX; daughter Jodie Thomas of Fort Collins, CO; longtime companion Ron Edwards and family of Lubbock; and many other loved ones, friends, neighbors, and former students who brought her great pride and joy.

An informal celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 3 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock. Feel free to come as you are, and wear Tech gear if you are so inclined.
