Roy M. Bearden-White

Roy M. Bearden-White, 59, of Levelland passed from this life on April 29, 2023.  Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the Sundown Room at South Plains College.

He was born January 15, 1964 in Winchester, Virginia to Roy Melvin White II and Gladys Schulle White.  He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and obtained his bachelors, masters and PHD in British Literature.  Roy also obtained a masters degree in Creative Writing.  He married Christina Bearden on May 30, 2003.

Roy taught English at South Plains College for 10 years.  He was also a co-director of the Honors Program at SPC.  Always eager to help his students, Roy began his own publishing company, Laughing Dogs Press, to create text books at no charge. 

He was a master wood worker and enjoyed collecting watches.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Christina Bearden-White; son, Jonathan Bearden-White; brother, Bill (Roxanne) Newlin; and nephew, Ricky Newlin.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Roy’s memory to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter.
