Roberta Eurine “Bill” Langford Thomman, 99, passed from this life on Saturday, April 26, 2025.Visitation will be held Thursday, May 1 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Krestridge Funeral Home. The burial will take place on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Levelland Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at Fifth Street Baptist Church — her beloved church home of more than seventy years — on Friday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Roy Prather officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Roberta was born on June 10, 1925, in the family farmhouse in Whitharral, Texas, to Edd and Lula Langford. She took great pride in being the first child born in Whitharral, a story she loved to share. Her mother was the school teacher in the one-room school house. Roberta started going to the school with her mother as an infant and often times was kept in a drawer while Mrs. Langford taught. While growing up, Roberta played basketball and volleyball. She claimed her volleyball serve was unreturnable! She graduated from Whitharral High School in 1942, and soon after moved to Levelland with her sister, Laverne, where they opened Langford Beauty Shop. That shop marked the beginning of Roberta’s lifelong dedication to serving downtown Levelland.

On February 8, 1947, she married Bob Thomman in the parlor of the First Methodist Church in Levelland. With the exception of a brief time spent in Wichita Falls for Bob’s education, Roberta lived her entire 99 years in Hockley County — a place she was proud to call home. She would say she loved traveling and seeing new places, but there is nothing like returning home.

In 1961, Roberta and Bob opened Thomman’s Jewelry, and over the years they grew their business to include Thomman’s World of Music and Thomman’s Gifts. Roberta’s entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her deep care for the community she served. Her warmth and friendship made her stores beloved fixtures in downtown Levelland.

Roberta was an active member of her community. She served as organist and Sunday school teacher at Fifth Street Baptist Church, held numerous positions in the Las Fidelis study club, and was a dedicated fifty-year member of Eastern Star Chapter 797. She was a charter member of the Levelland Music Club where she served many years. She and Bob were honored with numerous awards over the years including Levelland Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award and the Mainstreet Hero Award. Roberta was also a member of the International Society of Poets.

She took great joy in hosting gatherings in her home. Her table was always set formally for all occasions with every detail accounted for ahead of time. She was the epitome of an excellent host.

After her 90th birthday, Roberta retired and published her first book, Scraps of Life — a fitting reflection of a life well-lived and full of stories. She spent the last ten years of her life continuing to write her first novel.

While she was known as Mrs. Thomman downtown, she was simply known as Ma by her only child, son John “Jet” Thomman, and his wife Connie of Levelland; and Granny to her four grandchildren: Russell Thomman and wife Tara of Austin, Ross Thomman and wife Amy of College Station, Robyn Reaves and husband Zach of Levelland, and Rebecca Grunder and husband Brady of Canyon; and eight great-grandchildren: Samantha, Lilly, Hannah, Mason, Eli, Hudson, Tate, and one on the way.

She will also be remembered as Aunt Bill by nieces and nephews: Kathy Scott, Deb Loseman (Bob), Dave Campbell (Lynette), Jimmy Setser (Ingrid), and Billy Setser. She is also survived by longtime caretakers and friends Rosa Casaras, Laurie Kiser, and Rona Wheeler Romo.

Roberta is reunited in heaven with her husband of sixty-five years, Bob; her parents, Edd and Lula Langford; stepmother Ima Langford; and her siblings, Christine Langford, Laverne and Jim Setser, Betty and Richard Frazier, Sam and Flo Langford, Gerry and Maxine Langford, and Stanley and Nona Masters.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the caregivers and staff at Lynnwood Nursing Home as well as Interim Hospice.

Her legacy of faith, friendship, and service will live on in all those who had the blessing of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Fifth Street Baptist Church at 1009 5th Street, Levelland, Texas 79336 or the Whitharral Alumni Association at PO Box 225, Whitharrhal, Texas 79380.
