Raymond O. Dennis, 101, of Levelland, Texas passed from this life on April 3, 2024, at a Levelland, TX care facility.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Levelland. Visitation will be held 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Monday, April 8, 2024, at Krestridge Funeral Home.
Raymond was born October 16, 1922, to Elmer and Beatrice (Whitt) Dennis in Cedar Hill, Texas. He married Edna Marie Birdsong on December 24, 1943, she preceded him in death on February 10, 1976; he later married Nell Wallace Comer on July 11, 1976.
Raymond served during WWII in the US Army Air Corps. Following his military service, he moved to Levelland. He worked in the oil field, as an insurance agent, and farmer, but his most delightful of jobs was being County Clerk of Hockley County and the Mayor of Levelland. He loved Levelland and thought it was a breath of fresh air, even with all the sand. Hockley County gave him special recognition for 33 years of service to his beloved county, and Levelland honored him for his service as Mayor. Raymond was an active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church. He also had an intense passion for sports of any kind; he coached his sons in their youth. On his 100th birthday, he was honored at the Texas Tech vs West Virginia game; and Tech won! Raymond was also inducted into the Cedar Hill High School Hall of Fame. In addition to sports Raymond also loved to dance. His love, friendship, and acts of service were genuine, and he will be greatly missed.
Raymond is preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Marie Birdsong Dennis; daughter, Connie Myers; stepsons, Rickey Comer and Randy Comer; stepdaughter, Regina Becham; and granddaughter, Jamie Comer.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Nell Dennis; children, Melva Kittrell Fincher, O. Ray Dennis, Darrel W. Dennis, and F. Gwen Dennis Austin; sixteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors.
Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Krestridge Funeral Home. (806) 897-1111
