Pamela Gale Self Sanders, 78, of Levelland, Texas, passed from this life on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in Lubbock, TX.

Funeral services will be on January 3, 2025 at 10:00 AM, at Fifth Street Church of Christ in Levelland with Bryan Patterson and Jett Patterson officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

Pam Sanders was born on June 16, 1946, in Lubbock, Texas to Dale and Pearl Self. Pam’s family lived in such diverse places as Smyer, Texas and Salt Lake City, Utah, before settling in Levelland, Texas where she graduated from high school. While working at her father’s State Farm Insurance agency, she met Jerry Sanders. They married on July 24, 1971, and were loving parents to two children: Robyn and Stephen.

Pam worked for the Levelland Independent School District as a teaching assistant at Cactus Elementary for over twenty years and retired in 2001. She loved her profession, which showed through her passion for the work and her love for helping kids –especially those who didn’t have love or support at home, and she took it upon herself to make those kids feel loved and accepted. Her retirement from the field of education was, for her, bittersweet.

Pam found a new passion in her retirement years: grandkids. First, Robyn and her husband Bryan gave her three grandchildren: Reese, Landon, and Jett. Later on, Stephen and his wife Kristy gave her the last of her grandchildren: Stellan. In the ensuing years, Reese met and married Danielle, and with them the great-grandchildren began with Riley, Harvey Kyle, Jameson, and Abigail. Finally, Landon and his wife Rebecca had Annabeth in 2024. Pam loved all her family with her whole heart, and she never missed a chance to update a conversation with the latest news about them.

Outside of family, Pam also had other interests. She continued helping others by volunteering at the Covenant Hospital Levelland’s Gift Shop. She loved her friends there, and any scheduling of her week could not conflict with her time in the shop. She loved music, especially jazz – she always reminisced about listening to the jazz ensemble on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. She enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found relaxing on the front porch. She especially cherished the mountains around Pagosa Springs and her vacations there with Jerry. In the mornings, Pam relished solving the world’s problems with her breakfast group at McDonalds. Lastly, she enjoyed reading – especially mysteries. She always had a paperback on her bedside table, and an eBook loaded into her phone, for bedtimes or slow times.

Above all, though, was her faith. Pam was a lifelong, faithful Christian in the Church of Christ, as was her mother and her father. She was shored by this faith through a decade of health problems, and it strengthened her resolve in the face of uncertainty.

Pam was preceded in death by her father, Dale, in 1989; her niece, Diana, in 2005, and her mother, Pearl, in 2011.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Levelland; two children – Robyn Patterson (and Bryan) of Amherst, Texas; and Stephen Sanders (and Kristy) of Levelland; four grandchildren – Reese Patterson (and Danielle) of Lubbock, Landon Patterson (and Rebecca) of Littlefield, Jett Patterson of Abilene, and Stellan Sanders of Levelland; and five great-grandchildren – Riley Patterson, Harvey Kyle Patterson, Jameson Patterson, Abigail Patterson, and Annabeth Patterson. Finally, she is survived by a brother, Fred Self, of Montgomery, Texas; a niece, Anita Kief, of Montgomery, Texas; and three great-nephews and nieces – Daniel Hacker; Sasha Runnels; and Jeremy Gengenbach, plus many more great-great-nephews and nieces whom she adored.

The family wishes to thank the many skilled nurses, aides, custodians, and doctors at Levelland Nursing & Rehabilitation, Covenant Hospital Lubbock, and Joe Arrington Cancer Research & Treatment Center for the lovingkindness shown to Pam and her family.
