Gayle Taylor went to be with her Lord and savior on January 11, 2025. Her chains were broken, she was healed and set free surrounded by her family.
Gayle was born on December 20, 1940 in Levelland, Texas to Johnny and Dale Spurgeon. She grew up in Levelland Texas and lived here most of her life. She married Walter Taylor on February 17, 1995.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Louise Sanders, her father, Johnny Spurgeon, her mother, Dale Spurgeon, her brother, Donald Spurgeon and her grandson‘s, Chris Pepin, Daniel Humphreys, Rusty Sanders and a niece, Sandra Gayle Spurgeon.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Taylor, her sons Jim Humphreys, wife Patty, Donnie Humphreys, wife Shelia, Joe Humphreys, wife Pam and Danny Sanders son-in-law. Daughters Lacy Wollenburg, husband Justin, Laurie Shelton, husband Dewight, and Libby Clark, husband Andy. Also, many many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gayle loved the Lord and she loved all her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She welcomed anyone who visited with open arms. She loved unconditionally and she forgave without reservation. It didn’t matter if you had an addiction, she loved you with all her heart. It didn’t matter if you did things you shouldn’t have, she loved you with all her heart. She would never hold your faults over you, she always forgave you. She was strong and stubborn, that was due to the Spurgeon in her and her red hair. I remember coming home on leave and I knew what she was gonna to make for me: red beans, home fries, and cornbread. Later in life she loved to bake. I know many of you have had her pecan pie or her Italian cream cake. She also would make her potato salad for events at the church and if you had the honor to help her peel those potatoes well Lord help you if they weren’t peeled completely.
“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37-39 NIV
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV
