Mary Leavelle

Mary Jean Leavelle, 93, passed from this life on April 6, 2019 in Centre, Alabama. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel.

She was born March 23, 1926 to James A. and Ida Mae (Hardisty) Preuit in Lamesa, Texas. Jean lived most of her growing up years in Levelland, Texas, but moved to Wink, Texas in 1942 and graduated there in 1943. After graduation, she attended business school. Jean eventually moved back to Levelland where she met and married George Leavelle on January 2, 1947. They had two daughters, Iris and Nancy.
Jean was a homemaker for many years. After her daughters were grown, she went to work as a bookkeeper for College Avenue Floral. In 1980, she went to work in the Hockley County District Clerks office. In 1983, she was sworn in as a District Clerk and held that position for 8 years. This was one of the things she was most proud of other than her family. Through the years, Jean was an avid bowler, bridge player and active in various clubs and church activities.
She had been a member of Fifth Street Baptist Church and College Avenue Baptist Church, both in Levelland.

In 1997, Jean moved with her family to Alabama. The last 10 years of her life she lived in assisted living where she stayed active. She loved embroidery and working puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lara Belle Moore and her husband George.

Jean is survived by her children, Iris Anderson of Centre, Alabama and Nancy and Robby Engledow of Cameron, Louisiana; grandchildren, Tanya and Nathan Chadwick, Royce and Annyce Price, and Laura and Stephen Hougland;
great grandchildren, Koby Anderson, Katey Barrett, Jonathan Chadwick, Landrie Price, Jesse Pettis, Eric, Zoey, Alex, Adrianna and Ethan Martinez; great great grandchild, Mitchell Martinez; sister, Evelyn ''Sally'' Matthews of Levelland;
brother, James Preuit of Bonham, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
