L.D. "Butch" Bryant

L.D. “Butch” Bryant, 80, of Levelland, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025. Born in Littlefield, Texas, on November 5, 1944, to RH “Buck” and Edith Bryant, Butch grew up in Whitharral, Texas, as the youngest of seven children.

A proud graduate of Whitharral High School in 1963, Butch went on to earn a degree in Physical Education from Texas Tech University, graduating in 1972. On December 21, 1968, he married the love of his life, Judy Bryant. Together, they shared 56 years of marriage and raised their son, Scott Bryant, in Levelland, Texas.

With a keen eye for opportunity, Butch noticed a need in the oilfield and, in 1980, founded Butch’s Rat Hole, Inc. to serve oil and gas producers in Hockley County. In 1982, he expanded the business by acquiring an anchor division from a Levelland businessman, officially forming Butch’s Rat Hole & Anchor Service, Inc. After more than 45 years in the oil and natural gas industry, Butch stepped away from day-to-day operations, proudly passing the leadership of the company to his son, Scott, in 2001.

Butch was preceded in death by his siblings Gilbert, Calvin, Mildred, and Ralph. He is survived by his twin sister, Linda “Sissy,” and his brother, Ronnie. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Judy Bryant; his son Scott and daughter-in-law Jaime Bryant; his four grandchildren, Alec Conkin (wife Lauren), Tucker Bryant, Rylan Bryant, and Jack Bryant; and his great-grandchild, Corbyn. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who cherished his presence in their lives.

Known for his ornery streak and spitfire personality, Butch had an undeniable toughness. Yet beneath that exterior was a tender heart devoted to his family and those around him. His legacy lives on through the people he influenced, the business he built, and the community he cared for.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 6th, at 1 PM at First Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas.
