Layden Eugene Siders, 77, of Levelland, Texas went to his eternal home Monday morning, May 3, 2021, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed away at home in the arms of his forever love and best friend, Barbara. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 11 am in the Chapel at Trinity Church, 7002 Canton Avenue, Lubbock, TX 79413.
Layden was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 22, 1943 to Rev. Wayland Eugene and Maude Louise (Pope) Siders. As the son of a United Methodist minister, he moved with his family around south and central Indiana. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jane (Buse) Siders in Holland, Indiana July 21, 1962. Layden and Barbara lived in Greenfield, Indiana; McAllen, Texas; and Fresno, California. They moved back to Texas in 2003 and have been a part of the Levelland community since 2004. They worked together in the raising of three children and loved to worship and work in ministry in all the communities where they lived. Layden’s ministry was hospitality, and he loved to cook, along with Barbara right at his side, for his family and all brothers and sisters in Christ. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. Layden loved Jesus and led by his example in the giving of his love, talents, time and resources and considered his family his greatest blessing.
Layden worked for 38 years in the field of Agricultural Research with Eli Lilly and Dow Agri Science. He was a Mason in the Masonic Lodge, Hancock 101, and York Rite of Greenfield, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Danette, and her husband, Kenneth Follett. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 57 years; children, Jacqueline Kay Vick (Curtis J. Vick) of Georgetown; Kerry Todd Siders (Mary Peters Siders) of Levelland; and Nicqueline Lee Halbakken (Gale “Skip” Halbakken) also of Levelland; sisters, Selene Lowe and Nedra Rodenberg; six grandchildren, Aubree Vick Christian (Caleb Christian); Cassie Vick Hostetler (Brandon Hostetler); Jacob Vick (Kelsy Vick); Baylie Halbakken; Elijah Halbakken; Riley Siders; and four great grandchildren, Rhea Joy and Lily Faye Christian; and Liam Floyd and Griffin Thomas Hostetler.
