Laura Bell Harkins

Laura Belle Harkins, 94, passed peacefully on March 5, 2024.

She was born in Stinnett, Texas on October 19, 1929 to George and Hazel Parker.  Laura graduated from Wayland Baptist College in Plainview where she majored in piano and minored in business.  While at Wayland, she married her college sweetheart, D.W. Harkins, on August 20, 1949.

Laura worked as a stenographer for the FBI in the early 50s.  She then taught school in the 60s and 70s before retiring in the late 70s.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing piano, building dollhouses and watching sports, mostly baseball and basketball.  Laura loved the Texas Rangers and got to see them win the World Series in 2023.

Laura was a sweet, kind hearted, humble woman that never passed any judgement and loved her family as they were.  Her priorities were her family’s happiness and well being most of all.  Even in her later years, Laura took pride in caring for her boys as if they were still babies.

She trusted the Lord all of her life and was a devoted Baptist.  Laura served as an amazing mother, wife, grandma and great grandma.  She will always be remembered and missed by many.

Laura was preceded in death by her husband, D.W. Harkins; son, Jerry Wayne Harkins; and grandson, Justin Wesley Harkins.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Dee Harkins and Cody Ray Harkins; grandchildren, Miranda Diaz, Jerry Harkins, Jr., Jennifer Barrera, Logan Harkins, Deedra Harkins and Blake Harkins; great grandchildren, Austin Molina, Alex Molina, Haylie Snell, Collin Quine, Sadie Harkins, Bentley Harkins and Sophia Harkins; great-great granddaughter, Olivia Molina.

“Blessed are the ones who mourn, for they will forever be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
