June was born on August 7, 1933 at Washington on the Brazos, Texas to Reinhardt and Rosa (Mohr) Goeking. June developed her impressive work ethic as she grew up on and contributed to the success of her family’s dairy farm. She graduated from Brenham High School and from Blinn College. At Blinn, she met and later married the love of her life Earl Gerstenberger on August 8, 1954 at Washington on the Brazos.

She and Earl moved to Levelland, TX on July 4, 1958 to begin their service to South Plains College. After raising her children, June returned to higher education in 1967 as secretary to the registrar. This position resulted in a 26-year career of assisting SPC students in the registrar’s office and later in financial aid, special services and the business office.
June was most active in the churches she attended. She was a gifted organist, pianist, choir member and soloist. She had a servant’s heart and helped strengthen the churches in which she was a member by teaching Sunday School, serving on committees and by her faithful attendance. Most recently, June was a member of the Las Fidelas Study Club.
June and Earl retired from South Plains College in 1993 and began a 27-year adventure that included travelling the world by RV and cruise ship, and usually with dear friends.
