On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, Julia Kaye Brown, loving wife, devoted mother, and the best Mimi ever, left this earth at the age of 78. She was born, raised, and lived her entire life in Levelland, Texas. She graduated from Levelland High School and soon married her high school sweetheart, David L. Brown in 1966. They had two children and built a loving life together.
Known as Kaye by her friends and family, she was active in her children’s lives serving as homeroom mom, baseball mom, 4H mom, ballet mom, and, of course, chauffeur to and from all of the events. She would do anything for her kids, even into their adulthood. She was a big part of her church and the community, volunteering whenever she could and putting her creative talents to good use. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and leading the children’s choir, participating in numerous clubs, and always looking for ways to help others. After both of her children graduated high school, she returned to work at City Bank Levelland. She enjoyed her time with her co-workers and customers. However, none of these things compared to becoming a grandmother and doting on her grandchildren. She was the best Mimi a kid could ask for.
She was a true artist, although she would always say she wasn’t artistic, she was crafty. She could paint, sculpt, design, and create anything that her mind imagined. Her sense of style, both in fashion and her home, were impeccable and always polished. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially in front of an audience. Her laugh was loud, contagious, and filled any room. Her smile was gorgeous and always brought joy to others. Her talents and her mere presence will be missed dearly by all that had the honor to know her.
Kaye was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Brown, her father, Hershell DeWitt Roberts, and her mother, Julia Rhea Roberts. She is survived by her siblings, Jan (Ronnie) Kinney, Pam (John) Hammerle, and James (Dorothy) Roberts, her children, Devin (Betsy) Brown, and Kristy (Travis) Cruikshank, and her grandchildren, Cora Brown, Liam Brown, Kyra Cruikshank, and Audra Cruikshank.
A celebration of Kaye’s life will be held Friday, March 28, 2025 at 11:00 am at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas.
