Jim was born the eldest of eight children on February 5, 1938 in the Crosbyton, Texas area to Clem and Lorene McHam.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 69 years, Peggy Joyce May McHam and children: Debbie and Mike Coday, Jacque and Louis Fleming, Donna and Mike Ocheskey, Jay McHam and Blair Gowens, Terry McHam, Sharla and Todd Sessums, Teresa McHam, 36 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and he was anticipating the arrival of three new additions in February 2025. In addition, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and cherished friends.

Jim was preceded in death by their son, Timothy Duane McHam, his parents, and a brother, Eddie Ray McHam, along with other precious family who have undoubtedly welcomed him into heaven.

Jim was proud of his service as a leader in the church, community, and school. He served faithfully at the Whiteface Church of Christ for many years and was elected to multiple terms as a Whiteface CISD School Board member. He dedicated his life to helping shape the youth of the community through activities such as Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts, Little League Baseball, and various community and school sports and organizations.

Aside from caring for his loving family, Jim’s passion was farming the fields of West Texas for many years along with his family and friends. In the 1980’s, Jim went to work with his brothers and family at McHam Dirt Contracting where he remained until he retired.

Jim’s other passions included working on his antique tractors, woodworking, spending time at the lake with his family, traveling, and his love of country.

Above all, Jim loved his family. He loved being a husband, a dad, a grandpa, G-Pa, a great grandpa, and a loyal friend to many others he considered family. He adoringly referred to each of his kids and grandkids by their own special nicknames. Jim believed in generosity and was always willing to help and go the extra mile. He enjoyed meeting people and never met a stranger.

Jim’s impact on family, friends, and community will never be forgotten. His legacy will be remembered for generations to come through his kindness and compassion. He will be forever deeply loved and dearly missed.
