A life beautifully lived, filled with love, compassion, and countless memories, came to a peaceful end on July 26, 2024, when Jewell L Benson shed her earthly bonds and was called home. Born to Norman E. and Agnes Lincoln on December 7, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was raised with two sisters and a brother in Southie, the Irish section of Boston, and she brought warmth and joy to the world from the very start.
Julie became a Texan in 1961 upon her marriage to Mike Benson and together they raised two children, cotton, peanuts, cattle and little ruckus every now and then. Julie enjoyed baking, cooking and hosting dinners for friends and family. Known for her kindness, resilience, and unwavering sense of duty, Julie was a beacon of light in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She spent countless hours volunteering for the Hockley County Food Box, and her beloved St. Lukes Episcopal church.
Julie also spent many hours at the Bridge Center in Lubbock, and attained her life Master, a goal she attained after retirement and a very full and beautiful life. Her lovely smile and generous nature left an indelible mark on the hearts of so many.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mike Benson and is survived by her children; Link Benson of Gonzales, TX, Linda Benson of Lubbock, TX and her grandson Lincoln Andrews, who was the apple of her eye. Also left to cherish her memory are her older sister Ruth of Boston, and her brother Norman (Peggy) of Jupiter, Fl., many nieces, nephews and extended family who will truly miss her.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 am, graveside, at the City of Levelland Cemetery.
