Jeanette Welch, Hun, Mom, and Nana, made her way to heaven on February 24, 2025. Born on October 8, 1935, to a rascal of a father, Clifford, and a saint of a mother, Eula, Jeanette learned early on how to work hard and work often. She was a Lady Eagle in Pettit, Texas, playing every sport she could, but basketball? That was her true love. Well, most of her heart went to basketball, anyway— the rest was reserved for Jimmy Lee Welch, or “Doak,” as they called him. They tied the knot on July 10, 1955, and shortly after, Jeannie, Jackie, and Julie (say that three times fast) came into the world. They raised kids, animals, and crops for 66 years in Levelland.
Jeanette spent 39 and a half years working at Pettit Coop Gin, a job she took immense pride in—because nothing says "I’m a professional" like half a year. But her best days were spent on skis at the lake, riding on the back of a motorcycle, or cleaning something (probably because her impeccable standards wouldn't allow anything to go untouched). Always a classy lady, Jeanette had a standing hair appointment every Thursday because, well, you can't let good hair days be a rarity.
For those who loved her, we’ll always remember how she made two batches of fudge—because some people just don’t like nuts, how she swore emu oil was the cure for everything, how a hug was often the best medicine for a kid, and how she proved that even in the desert, you could grow geraniums. Best of all, she had a knack for finding the best laughs—especially if they were at her own expense. How grateful we are to have known an exceptional lady- someone whose love, laughter, and wisdom touched our lives in ways words can’t fully capture. We miss you already.
She is survived by her children, Jackie and JonAnn Welch, and Jeannie Stanley; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Shirley Conley; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and beloved friends. She was welcomed to heaven by her husband, Jim Welch; daughter, Julie Welch; and grandchildren, Matt and Mindy Stanley."
