Harold Ray Phillips was born in Mertens, TX on August 16, 1931 and raised in Italy, TX, where he graduated from high school. He grew up on the family farm and was active in FFA, football, motorcycle riding and fishing. He kept in touch with his Italy classmates and treasured their friendships throughout his life. He joined his loved ones in Heaven on January 21, 2019. He and Gwen, his wife of 35 years, were long-time members of Cactus Drive Church of Christ, Levelland TX.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Gwen Phillips; parents Lorena and Jim Phillips, brother Robert (Ethel), sister Earline (Smokey) Janes, nephew Jimmy Janes, and stepson Larry Purdy. Also preceding him in death were wives Georgia Graves and Freda Sullivan.
He is survived by daughters Jeri Phillips of Fort Worth, Patty Carter of Whitney, Kelly Oden of Lubbock, Kitty Bint of Merkel, Cindy (Dale) Demel of Bula and son Gary (Angie) of Littlefield. Grandchildren Tammy Little (Keri Karnes) of Levelland, Billy Little of Eunice NM, Lori Little, Rene (Eric) Hughes of Midland, Trav Carter of Whitney, Melissa (Danny) Hardin of Newcastle, Laura Brown of Woodson, Justin (Brandy) Overcash of Graham, Jason Overcash of Granbury, Joshua (Heather) Oden of Tampa Bay, FL, Chelsey (Ben) Cook of Lubbock, Tara (Kris) Humphreys of Sudan, Kristen (Stephen) McCain of Littlefield, Whitney (Mason) McWilliams of Corpus Christi, Blake (Randi) of Denver City, Sheri (James) Veazey of Colorado City, Keely (Joe Paul) Cristan of Littlefield, Geffrey (Katie) Purdy of Beverton, OR, Chris Grisham of Midland, and Joshua Grisham of Canyon. There are also 42 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Harold was a lifelong farmer, an avid fisherman, hunter, domino player, baseball fan and traveler. He loved talking to anyone and everyone and never met a stranger. He would watch any baseball game anytime, but was partial to the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. Watching old westerns, especially Gunsmoke, was a favorite pastime. And he loved Tammy's homemade banana pudding.
Special thanks are extended to his care families at Hickory Place Senior Living in Levelland and Hospice of Lubbock for the care and comfort they provided in the last months of his life. They are all truly angels on earth. May God bless all of them as they blessed Harold.
