George Clyde Hensley was born on August 24, 1952, in Levelland, Texas, to E. W. Hensley and Helen Saige Hensley. He peacefully passed away on July 16th, 2024, surrounded by love, after a long battle with ALS. Growing up in Levelland with his two brothers, George graduated from Levelland High School and attended South Plains College, where he met his best friend and true love, Debbie Stancell-Hensley. They married on June 14, 1974, and raised four wonderful children together.
George was an active member of Cactus Drive Church of Christ, serving the Lord through his custodial work for his church family. His hard work and dedication were evident as he worked faithfully for Texaco for over 25 years, later moving to Covenant Hospital, and retiring from South Plains College in 2023. He was well-known and loved by his church family and many in the community. His acts of service included jail ministry, a mission trip to Honduras, and Meals on Wheels. Even as his health declined, he continued to want to help others. George loved family vacations and fishing and was a very skilled woodsman. There wasn't much he couldn't salvage or fix.
George is survived by his wife, Debbie Hensley; his children: Aaron and Aimee Hensley of Lubbock, Texas; Chad and Autumn Edwards of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Andrew and Maureen Hensley of Boerne, Texas; and Lauren Hensley-Barker of Midland, Texas. He also had 12 precious grandchildren, aged 0-27. He was preceded in death by his brothers, E.W. Hensley Jr. and Kenneth Hensley, as well as his parents.
His family would like to thank everyone who supported and contributed to George's care during his fight with ALS. He will be deeply missed, but they will continue to see and feel the goodness of God.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, at Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family respectfully ask that consideration be given to sending memorial donations to the West Texas ALS Foundation. This foundation played an intricate role in supporting George and many others during their battle with this disease.
Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Krestridge Funeral Home. (806) 897-1111
