George Harris

George Thomas ''Tommy'' Harris, 77, of Levelland passed from this life on January 2, 2018 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the City of Levelland Cemetery.

Tommy was born July 20, 1940 in Wichita Falls, Texas to parents Jerry and Bill Harris. After attending school at Wylie-Abilene, OL Slaton-Lubbock, and Lubbock High School, Tommy graduated from Levelland High School in 1959 where he was Honorable All-State Football and All-District Baseball. He attended South Plains College in Levelland and Texas Western in El Paso. Tommy also served our country in the Texas National Guard.

He married Virginia Starr on December 23, 1962. Tommy was part owner and manager of Higginbotham Gin in Lamesa. He served on the Board of Texas Independent Ginners Association and the Board of Directors of Texas Cotton Ginners Association.

After retirement in 2001, Tommy loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed golf, his Lionel trains, photography, historical airplanes and travel, especially by train.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betsy Harris, and brother Jimmy Harris.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Virginia; daughters Jana Harris and Julie and husband Utah York; son, Michael Harris; and grandchildren, Taylor Walton, Alyssa York, Reagan Walton, Morgan Walton, and Austin York.
