Elva Spitler Schoenrock, 99, of Levelland passed from this life on August 17,2024. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Krestridge Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, August 22,2024 at First Methodist Church in Levelland, with the Reverend James Schoenrock officiating. Pastor Ruby Moultrie will be assisting. Interment will follow in the Levelland City Cemetery.

Elva was born November 13, 1924 in Foss, Oklahoma to Willis and Leota Spitler who were engaged in farming in central Oklahoma. The family moved to Levelland in 1933 following her grandparents, William and Maggie Spitler, who purchased land and began farming in Levelland in 1930.

The family included Elva's two younger brothers, Irvin and Paul. She graduated from Levelland High School in 1941. After graduation she became a Deputy Sheriff for Ed Hofacket from 1942 to 1945.

She married Lawrence Schoenrock on January 5,1946 in Plainview Texas. Lawrence had spent many years engaged in some of the fiercest battles in WWII, fighting across North Africa, into Italy, and eventually into Germany. He often said that he wanted to survive the war so that he could come home and start a family.

Elva and Lawrence farmed around Levelland until Lawrence's retirement in 1982. They had 4 children, Larry, Carol Jean, Bobby, and the absolute light of her life, Terry Paul. Elva was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. She lived an active life in the Levelland community. She was an avid bowler, involved with several leagues throughout the years. She was involved with Special Olympics being a strong advocate for the program. The last several years, she has been a supporter and active member of the Levelland Sr. Citizens Center, and Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence who passed away in 2000, and her daughter Carol Jean who died in 2009. Survivors include her sons, Larry, Bobby, and Terry Paul, all from Levelland. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Trent Schoenrock of Houston, Kali Schoenrock of Lubbock, and Kevin Schoenrock of Indianapolis. Elva has one great granddaughter, Laci Scearce, of Indianapolis. Elva is also survived by her brothers, Irvin Spitler of Phoenix, Arizona, and Paul Spitler of Prague Oklahoma, and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Elva Schoenrock's pioneer roots run deep in Texas. Her great, great grandfather was a part of the Texas Revolution whose stepson died at the Alamo. She has always taken pride in her Texas roots and her family's active role in the Levelland community. She's been a beloved member of the Levelland community her whole life.

A special thanks goes out to Kay Spitler, Irvin's daughter, as she spent many weeks caring for Elva and Terry Paul the past few years. Also, her caregivers for the past 8 months have worked tirelessly to help keep Elva comfortable and at home, as she never wanted to leave Terry Paul. Melissa Sanchez, Melba Sanchez, Abby Luna, Alejandra Segura, and Nancy Contreras did a fabulous job taking care of Terry Paul and Elva.

The family asks that in Lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hockley County Senior Citizens Center at 1202 Houston St. Levelland TX 79336.

Services with integrity, honor and pride are under the direction of Krestridge Funeral Home. (806) 897-1111
