Dr. George Pat McDonald of Castroville passed away on August 23, 2019 at the age of 79 years. Pat was born on October 6, 1939 in Levelland, Texas, the son of R.D. McDonald and Kathleen Alexander McCollough. Pat is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Barbara McDonald of Castroville; children, Shannon Pat McDonald of Colorado Springs, Ardra Dea Hughes of Marble Falls, Christi Lea Griggs (Troy) of Castroville, Michael Conor McDonald of Houston and Makenzie Wills Bippert (Brandon) of San Antonio; grandchildren, Justan Davis Griggs, Collin Reid Hughes, Britan Michal Griggs, Carter Alexander Hughes, Mykelti Leigh Griggs and Shawn Patrick McDonald. Pat is brother of Kay McDonald Willingham, Mike (Martha) McDonald and Judy (Arnold) Williams. Pat was preceded in death by his father, R.D. McDonald; his mother, Kathleen Alexander McCollough; quadruplet grandsons, Jase, Keegan, Kellen and Drew Bippert and his brother-in-law, Jack Willingham.

Pat was a 1958 graduate of Lubbock High where he is still the last track and field state champion representing Lubbock High school, winning the 440 yd dash. Pat ran track at the University of Texas at Austin, received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in 1970.

Pat married the love of his life, Barbara Ellen Hayes, on December 28, 1967 in Clarksville, Texas. Pat worked with his family at the Levelland Compress and practiced as a DVM in Rotan, Snyder, Clarksville and Castroville. He was a contract Veterinarian for San Antonio, Kennedy and Pleasanton Stockyards. He authored the Economics of Production Efficiency in the Bovine Practitioner in 1976. Later, he pursued his true passion of teaching and coaching track at Incarnate Word High School, Klein Collins High School and Kirbyville. He pioneered the MScope Method, a runner's time improvement method, with other coaches across Texas. Pat continued to pursue his passions of competing, coaching, flying, golfing, writing and traveling throughout the remainder of his life. His biggest thrill and endeavor was loving, protecting and guiding his family. He loved God, his wife, kids, grandkids, family, friends, work and his life.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 28, 2019 starting at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home in Castroville. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, August 30, 2019 at Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel of Levelland at 10am, followed by interment at City of Levelland Cemetery.
