Donald "Donny" Gene Polk

Donald Gene Polk, 80, of Whitharral passed from this life on August 31, 2022.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Whitharral Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in the Whitharral Cemetery.

He was born June 18, 1942 in Littlefield to S.J. and Juanita Polk.  Donny attended Whitharral ISD. He married Rosetta Williams in Sudan, Texas.  Donny and Rosetta were married for 62 years and made their home in Whitharral where they raised their three children.  He was a member of Whitharral Baptist Church.

Donny farmed in and around Hockley County and was the Opdyke Co-op Gin manager for 25 years.  He enjoyed farming and ginning. Donny also did custom hauling in south Texas. 

Donny was best known for his involvement in his kids, grandkids and great grandkids sporting activities, even up until a few weeks before his death.

In the words of Donny, “I lived a good life.” He will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.J. and Juanita Polk; brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Jonnye Polk; and granddaughter, Jessica Hatley.

Donny is survived by his wife, Rosetta Polk; son, Jimmy (Julie) Polk of Whitharral; daughters, Roxann (Ray) Morris of Shallowater and Angela (Kerry) Hatley of Midland; grandchildren, Jeremy (Jenny) Polk, Megan (Ty) Johnson, Charley (Natalie) Harley, Billy Harley, Aaron (Sarah) Morris, Eric (Maggie) Morris, Andrew (Mayson) Morris, Meagan (Chad) Kennemer, Kris (Kayla) Hatley, Kyler (Kirby) Hatley, and Kaden (Megan) Hatley; and 22 great grandchildren.
