Deloris Carter Griffin, 83, of Burnet, Texas (formerly of Sundown) gained her angel wings on August 1, 2022. She was the eldest of six children born to H.B. and Irene (Barry) Carter on September 9, 1938 in Sundown, Texas.
Growing up in Sundown, Deloris was the proud daughter of a cotton farmer. The Carter family moved around the cotton patch a few times, and Deloris quickly made friends wherever she went, whether at school or dancing to western swing with her sister as her dad and brothers played country music all over Hockley County. She was a lifetime member of God’s house, and if you knew Deloris you knew that without a doubt. She faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Kingsland before being diagnosed with Lewy Body Disease in 2008. Her love for the Lord was pure and true, so as a follower of Christ she gladly followed where ever God led her. She held many titles with in her congregations such as church bus driver, Sunday school teacher, door greeter, and vacation bible school teacher. She was a beautiful, gracious, and Godly woman who had a home for Jesus Christ inside her heart. Next to God came the importance of love for her family and friends. When her phone rang and a new grand baby was on the way…Deloris was there. If someone she loved was sick, she was there. The Griffin House was the place to be every summer for all of her grandkids and great great-grandkids! She made the memories happen by telling the scary story of “The Green Eyed Monster!”, or making the perfect meals that only she could make. Deloris kindly hosted many “fashion shows” put on by her granddaughters performed in her very own living room. She also fried more than one catfish caught by her sons-in-law and grandsons. But more than anything, Deloris loved unconditionally. That very legacy was passed down to family and friends and because of her love she will forever be loved.
Deloris was proceeded in death by her parents, H.B. and Irene Carter; brother, Jimmy Carter; daughter, Sharon Kim Mills; step-son, Danny Wayne Griffin; son-in –law, Vincent Van Zandt; nephew, Harold Ragland; and grandson, Dusty Carpenter.
Deloris is survived by her husband, Bill of 55 years; daughters, Terri Van Zandt (Keith Elmore) of Idalou, DeAnn Bernhard (Willie) of Boerne, and Vicki Hanna of Lonestar; sister, Nancy Meadows (Danny) of Levelland; sister-in-law, Melba Carter of Lubbock; brothers, Benny Carter (Phyllis) of Levelland, Travis Carter of Sundown, and Billy Carter (Judy) of Sundown; grandchildren, Amber McIntire (Murphy) of Mansfield, Arkansas, Christi Bishop (Zach)of Gause, Cody Abbey (Ashley) of La Grange, Lacy Van Zandt (Jay) of Bertram, Zana Cannon (Sam) of Giddings, Jenna Tondre (Matt) of Austin and Kendal Morris (Tyler) of New Braunfels; as well as 15 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Lorsie.
