Clayton “Gene” Stansifer passed away on August 9, 2024. Gene, lovingly known as “Papa”, was born January 20, 1925, in Peru, Kansas, to William “Bill” and Freda Stansifer.
After serving in the Navy during WWII from 1943-1946, Gene returned home to Kansas where he met his wife, Wanda, to whom he was married for 67 years. Gene and Wanda settled in Levelland, Texas, in the 1950s, where they raised their three sons: Mike, Larry, and Benny. Gene worked for Amoco Pipeline for 40 years, retiring in 1987. In retirement, Gene could be found delivering meals for the Senior Citizen Center of Levelland on Mondays, volunteering in the gift shop of the local hospital, golfing, tinkering with projects at home or on his grandkid’s vehicles. He was a devout congregant of the First Baptist Church in Levelland and a long-time and good-standing member of Masonic Lodge 1236.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, four siblings, and his parents. He leaves behind his children Mike (Nancy) of Glenpool, Oklahoma, Larry (Sheryl) of Jenks, Oklahoma, and Benny of Lubbock, Texas; his grandchildren Robbie Stansifer (Renee) of Delray Beach, Florida, Richie Stansifer (Kelly) of Spring, Texas, Lindsey Richmond (Josh) of Anna, Texas, Lane Stansifer of Jenks, Oklahoma and Steven Robison (Devon); and four great-grandchildren Ty, and Luke of Spring, Texas, Ian, Aidan of Delray Beach, Florida, and Kori (Anthony).
Family visitation will be from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Krestridge Funeral Home on Monday, August 12,2024. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 10:00 am in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
