Carey Mark Murphey, 59, of Houston, TX, formerly of Levelland, TX, stepped through the curtain into his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 18, 2016.
Mark was born February 1, 1957, in Mobile, Alabama, to Dr. Seth and Marjorie Elizabeth Murphey.
Mark married Maria Fraire on March 18, 1978. Mark was well known as a youth in West Texas and New Mexico on a Golden Gloves boxer. He was twice regional champion and state contender.
Local residents, Billy and Nancy Price, provided Mark with a scholarship in welding at South Plains College. As a youth, Mark worked in the oilfields in West Texas. In Houston, Mark worked as a welder and in recent years, worked with the Texas Department of Transportation.
Mark's passing leaves all with an empty feeling of loss. He was a special man, he loved people. He had special love for his parents, and always sought to serve them. His love for family was immeasurable.
Mark was preceded in death by a daughter, Tiffany, and by his mother, Marjorie Elizabeth Murphey, and his grandparents, James Nona "Pat" and Bertha Pearl Murphey of Levelland.
Mark is survived by his wife, Maria, who ably cared for him during his many days of illness.
Mark is also survived by his father, Dr. Seth Murphey of Levelland, his twin sister, Joy Armstrong of Sunland, California, sister, Dr. Melody Bellinghausen of Grand Prairie, and brother, Truett Murphey of Levelland, and by many nephews, nieces and host of friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at South Plains Church, 1421 Cactus Drive, Levelland, followed by burial at the City of Levelland Cemetery. Pastor Eddie Trice will officiate.
