Betty Reffner

On April 22, 2017, after 93 years of life and love, Betty Lee Reffner went to be with the Lord she loved so dearly.

Born on December 28, 1923 in Sterling, Kansas to Glenn Edwin Truesdell and Myrtle Marie Baggett, Betty was the eldest of three children. After marrying Maurice James Reffner on October 29, 1939, the couple were blessed with four sons and three daughters, and later moved to Texas.

Betty and Maurice were married 49 years, until Maurice's passing in 1989. Also preceding her in death were her parents; her siblings, Gerald Edwin Truesdell and Glenna Lois Burgess; and three of her sons, Jerry James, David Lee and Michael Edwin Reffner.

Surrounded by loved ones in her final days, family members reminisced about Betty's love for her family, holiday traditions and her delicious fried chicken, pies and homemade ice cream. Levelland residents remember her smiling face as a Walmart greeter, a job she excelled at for 11 years.

Through the years, Betty was also involved in the Legion of Mary and the Altar Society in Odessa. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Levelland.

As the matriarch of the family, Betty leaves behind surviving children, Susan Gray and husband Steve of Lubbock; Michele Reffner of Levelland; Carol Trout and husband Mike of Odessa; and Chris Reffner and Jamie of Levelland. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She is remembered by them all for her legacy of faith and family, and for carrying her cross with dignity and grace.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017, at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland at 6 PM with visitation to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Levelland. Interment will be in Odessa at 4 PM in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
