Barty Jo "Jody" Kennedy

Barty Jo “Jody” Kennedy, 97, of Levelland passed from this life on November 9, 2023.  Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm MST in the Tatum Cemetery in Tatum, New Mexico.

She was born August 20, 1926 to Henry and Myrtle Bollinger in Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas.  Jody married Bill Kennedy on March 1, 1947 in Hobbs, New Mexico.  Together, they had two sons, Billy Joe and Michiel Dean.

Jody was a longtime member of Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock where she was very active with her Sunday School class and other church programs.

She lived life to the fullest.  Jody loved her “Tatum kids” while being the Director of the Teen Center and Chairman of the Booster Club, as well as driving the kids to their events in her school bus for many years.  She was honored with a plaque for her service to the Tatum kids during her 90^th birthday party.

Jody also enjoyed playing cards, bingo and dominoes, and was known for being a great player.  She loved to travel and did so during her retirement, going to many amazing countries and all over the United States. 

Most of all, Jody was fondly known as “Grangie”. She loved spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; her infant son, Michiel Dean Kennedy; four sisters; and one brother.

Jody is survived by her son, Billy Joe Kennedy and wife Gail of Whiteface; grandchildren, Kimberly Dusek and husband Travis of Wall, BJ Kennedy and wife Brandi of Levelland, and Meghann Kennedy of Lubbock; great grandchildren, Bristan Kennedy, Brecklyn Kennedy, Brolin Kennedy, Reese Dusek and Braydon Kennedy; and a multitude of family and friends.
